Kindness Challenge No. 6

Sometimes it can be difficult to understand where other people are coming from. We have many different cultures on this small turning ball, and even more ideologies and worldviews.

This week, I am asking you to talk to someone you don’t understand.

Maybe you don’t know a lot of gay people, but there’s that one guy at your office. Maybe you don’t entirely understand gender fluidity, but there’s that human at the library who uses they/them pronouns. Maybe you really love Chinese food, but you’ve never actually spoken to a Chinese person. But there’s that Asian supermarket down the road.

To be clear, I’m not asking you to have a political discussion, or talk about anything profound or in depth. I’m asking you to just say hello and how is it going, and what are your plans for the weekend, and just generally have a conversation with another human.

The point here isn’t to try and change anyone’s mind, so much as to remind all of us that at the end of the day, we’re all people.
